Simon Taylor
I have studied at both UEL and Kingston during the course of my degree. Having a strong grounding in the field of illustration and a passion for epic stories and all forms of storytelling, I have specialised in narrative illustration using a plethora of mediums from inks to etching and am particularly fond of drawing processes and mark making.
Aside from narrative illustration, I am very keen when it comes to observational and figure drawing and I feel that good drawing skills are fundamental to a good result and a good final piece.
As part of my passion for stories I dabble a little in various aspects of mythology and enjoy reading epics; from The Iliad to The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and I also spend many an hour sifting through the encyclopaedia reading up about mythology and history.
I also work part time doing art workshops with Tom Ryall's "Skyhigh" team, working with youngsters on various estates and teaching them basic drawing techniques and working with them through the design process towards producing murals for local communities. Last year I taught in a workshop at Feltham Community College as part of Network Rail's nationwide "No Messin'" event and am currently working weekly at the Oriel Estate in Hanworth.
In the future I hope to work as an illustrator in both Narrative and Editorial fields and in so doing I hope to continue to exercise and refine my artistic abilities and, just as importantly, my imagination, all the while adding new techniques, ideas and sources of inspiration to my arsenal.
